In college, as a "roboticist" I had to study controls. Like, how to control a robotic arm electronically. Controls is an important and interesting field, whose lessons are pretty hard to distill into one sentence, but I'll give it a shot: Never use positive feedback.
Maybe the status equivalent of taxation.. is increasing scrutiny from media and citizens (vigilante)? Famous people attracts more attention and are under close observation all the time. So there is a higher chance of their scandals being exposed (than ordinary people like you and me I guess), which leads to loss of status....
